How to select a nice house

When choosing a home there are a lot of questions that you should ask yourself. The process is easy with our simple How to Select a House guide below. To start ask yourself the basic questions of what you are looking for in a home.
  1. What type of property are you looking for?
    • Single family home
    • Town house
    • Condominium
    • Land
    • Building
  2. Where do you want the property to be located?
  3. What is the minimum number of bedrooms?
  4. What is the minimum number of bathrooms?
  5. What is your price range?
Use those questions to get started choosing a home. Contact a Realtor who can assist you in your search using the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). When you have access to the MLS, the system sends property information to your e-mail. You then access the MLS using a link in your e-mail or at the website with your user name and password (supplied to you by your Realtor). The Multiple Listing Service allows you to view all the information you need to know about a property, plus it features pictures and virtual tours of some homes.
Consider other factors when choosing a home like will the house be a good investment? and does the property fit into your budget? How will the ownership of real estate suit your short term and long term goals?
Once you have found a property that you like ask yourself does the home have enough:
  • Bedrooms?
  • Bathrooms?
  • Space in common areas?
Then consider if the house fits your other needs:
  • Garage
  • Master bath
  • Basement
  • Laundry
  • Appliances
  • Exposure
  • Lot size
  • Location
  • School district
  • Other amenities
Do you like the:
  • Layout of the home?
  • Style of the home?
Other details you may want to consider...
Do you like the:
  • Fixtures?
  • Window Coverings?
  • Wall color?
  • Cabinetry?
  • Moldings?
Are you able to close on the home in the period of time that best suits your needs?
Choosing a home doesn’t have to be difficult. Another thing that can help in the home selection process is to bring along friends and family when viewing properties of interest. Having another opinion is always a good idea and it can assist you in choosing a home for you that is right and best fits your needs.
In addition to friends and family, it is highly recommended that you talk to a Realtor who knows your local market. Realtors are trained professionals that must adhere to a strict code of ethics. Plus, best of all if you are simply purchasing a home, you owe the Realtor nothing. The seller of a property pays any real estate commissions owed.
